Vision Magazine for Kempsey Macleay RSL

With memberships nearing 7,000, the Kempsey Macleay RSL is at the heart of the community. Their stunning member magazine, Vision, features stories of carefully crafted dishes developed by the chef from paddock to plate, local sports’ spotlights and more, making a bright addition to everyone’s coffee table. A long-standing client, the club turned to us to make sure it got there.

The Challenge

Jabiru Printing were engaged to get the latest Vision magazine and complete AGM package out to the RSL’s database of approximately 7,000 members.

Since this was our client’s biggest print and mail-out to date, we were invested in helping them maximise their campaign and eliminate unnecessary expense. Jabiru Printing handled every detail from print to post.

The Solution

The project comprised of five different printed elements; a full colour 30 page magazine including a 6 page foldout, an A5 nominations informational flyer, a DL ballot form, and a reply-paid envelope, all to be sent within a C4 envelope.

When it comes to mailing, every millimetre and every gram counts and with five different elements, it starts to add up. While designs were final, we set about tailoring a print solution that would minimise the total final weight of the mail-out.

We were able to make a massive impact by just tweaking printing and paper choices. The magazine is full of stunning imagery of the local Macleay area and the dishes created by the chef at Freshwater Grill, which we felt was lost on the uncoated 120 gsm paper stock previously used. We recommended a lighter weight 100 gsm hi bulk paper stock that didn’t

suck the colour out of the artwork, but still achieved the texture and feel our client was after.

We also looked at how our client could save more on the reply-paid side of the mail-out, recommending an alternative to what they had originally considered, which our client was happy with.

Then we got to work, cleansing and processing the Club’s member database, managed all Reply Paid and Bulk Mail applications and lodgements with Australia Post, printing and collating each element, addressing and barcoding envelopes, and inserting each print piece into the mailing envelope before sorting for lodgement.

The Results

By reducing the weight of the magazine by just 22 grams, the postage costs for each package was then within a lower price bracket, resulting in savings of over $3,390 in postage for our client. We were also able to save our client over $570 in the printing due to paper choice, and a simple envelope change saved them another $580.

The Jabiru team’s print and mailing expertise not only improved the final product, but also saved our client a total of $4,540 on this one campaign alone.

From receiving final artwork to mail-out, this project was turned around in just nine business days.
